This is the last of my sessions from Summer 2010 and I’m already beginning to feel nostalgic for these past few months. As I start to pack up the studio and send out my announcement of moving to all my loyal clients that I’ve had over the years here in Delaware, I hope that I will still be able to share in those special moments your family has in the future during my trips down to Delaware several times a year. As a photographer, I have a special privilege in seeing through my lens the intimate moments of a family growing, laughing, and loving together. It is truly a gift every time I meet a new family or take the first pictures of a new baby brought into the world. It allows me to let all the stresses in life fall away and just take peace in that moment I am lucky to capture. I hope you all will grow with me as things change a bit, but the beautiful moments continue.

Quote for the day:

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”

~Pericles

This family’s session was a pleasure to shoot and I love how their images turned out. They are such a beautiful family and I thought the last photograph really captured their spirit with the way the sun filtered through the trees and created a warm, golden glow. I’m already missing the many hours of light that the summer gives me– the night is coming too soon and it’s only September!

Quote for the day:

“All your renown is like the summer flower that blooms and dies; because the sunny glow which brings it forth, soon slays with parching power.”
- Alighieri Dante

In my next couple posts, I’m sharing photographs from some of my last Summer 2010 portrait sessions. It has been a hot one (I think I saw in the paper that it was the hottest on record) and I am definitely ready for the crisp, cool autumn air. I’m itching to break out my scarves, cardigans, and on the lookout for a new pair of boots! I think everyone is ready for a breezy fall, so kick back, sip a pumpkin spice latte and enjoy what the new school year brings. And if you are missing the summer heat, check out these posts to take you back to this summer :)

Quote for the day:

“A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.”

So, the word is out and it’s official.  Due to my husband’s job, we are moving this November.  DuPont is transferring us to Northeastern PA and let me just say that it’s a whirlwind!!  In the short time since we found out, we’ve listed our house here, bought a house there {a VERY cool 100 year old victorian!}, and gotten every ball in the court rolling in that direction.  The movers arrive on November 17!!!

Unfortunately we are closing the Hockessin Studio on October 25.  But, the good news is that I will still be shooting in Delaware on location. 8-10 times a year, I’ll make the trip down to happy little Delaware to shoot on the weekends!   Instead of purchasing prints from me, I’ll be offering only my Simple Artistry Sessions – which are the digital file sessions.  You’ll receive a full cd of high resolution images to print as much as you’d like!  Watch my blog for the announcement of the 2011 dates!

It is such a huge change!!  I have to admit though, I’m pretty stoked about the business changes to come. For about 3 years now, almost every client who walks through my door asks me about digital files.  Now, I can honestly say that I think this is where the photography industry is headed.  Most photographers will complain about it, but realistically we have to change with the times to meet our clients needs.  This, my beautiful friends, is me doing just that!

A few things to come:

A Digital White Sale on all old, archived sessions.  Your last chance to buy your files!

A Studio garage Sale!  On October 10, 2010, I’m opening my doors and selling a ton of STUFF. Furniture, backrops, electronics, and even some key photography equipment.

Lastly, I want to remind you that now is the time to book for the fall season! I’m done shooting as of October 23, so if you’re interested NOW IS THE TIME.  Our calendar is booking up ridiculously fast!  There are only 2 weekend dates remaining, and about 10 weekday dates!

I met this little guy when he was just a newborn and I am always pleasantly surprised to see how much the babies I photograph change in a year! It really makes you realize that a year has passed when you look at how your child’s face has changed or how they’ve grown taller or more mature (one can hope!). It was great getting to tag along on this family’s journey from baby to little boy!

Quote for the day:

“Growing up is never easy. You hold on to things that were. You wonder what’s to come. But that night, I think we knew it was time to let go of what had been, and look ahead to what would be. Other days. New days. Days to come. The thing is, we didn’t have to hate each other for getting older. We just had to forgive ourselves… for growing up.”

As the school year begins, and everyone is busy getting ready for back to school (or already back to school!), I always start out by wishing for two things: happiness and healthiness. Because no matter what grades our kids may bring home or who ends up getting in trouble, as a mom, you want only those two things for your family when it really comes down to the essentials. This family from a recent maternity session seems to already have the positivity in their life and it shines through in these images. It’s hard not love that family portrait! Here’s hoping that the new school year brings happiness and healthiness to your homes.

Quote for the day:

“Labor Day is a glorious holiday because your child will be going back to school the next day.  It would have been called Independence Day, but that name was already taken.”
