This mother and son duo were such a pleasure to work with
Having had portraits taken for years, they were so easy to photograph and we were able to capture effortlessly the playful moments of a boy growing up. The bond between mom and son was so evident and strong and I hope it came through in these photographs from their session!

Sometimes people don’t realize how much wardrobe can really make the image. Take this recent session with these two loving parents and little girl. The vibrant pop of orange color in her romper really made these shots for me. I love how the orange contrasts with the dark purple couch and grey background. It all falls away and she really stands out, as she should! Her white dress with the distressed floor create a softer photograph, and, of course, naked always works too! So don’t neglect to consider wardrobe for your session because it can really change the mood of the image and can make what might just be nice, simply perfection

I’ve been lucky to be able to get to know this family in a previous session with their family while mom was pregnant with their little bean. Now that the new addition is here, we had to capture her happy nature and love this special little girl has brought to this family! I just love her cheery and playful polka dot dress

“Why are we so full of restraint? Why do we not give in all directions? Is it fear of losing ourselves? Until we do lose ourselves there is no hope of finding ourselves.”

*Sigh*… if only we could all be this beautiful while we were expecting.
I’ve been photographing Molly and her beautiful family for a while now (here are a few from their last session – the first two boys in this post), and I’m so excited that they are adding another little one to the bunch! We were supposed to capture a new family portrait, but with two sick boys and the chaos of life, I’m so glad it turned into a maternity session!! I truly believe every woman should document this time in her life. There is nothing more beautiful! (except, perhaps, the end result).

You may know (or not know) that recently I put a call out for high school students to model for me. I just wanted to dip my toe in the water and see if this was something I was A. good at, and B. enjoyed. So, I took 4 girls – all beautiful in that make you sick kind of way – and we wandered around Main Street Newark and Ridley Creek.
This one day of shooting was more work than ever for me, but this one day of shooting was the most fun I’ve had in my job in so long. These girls are AMAZING, smart, talented and so gorgeous!
Wynne was the first one up – she’s stunning, she’s Canadian, she’s quirky and has this funny little dry humor about her. I couldn’t have asked for a better model – both in imagery and role model for other kids. We had a blast together shooting!! OH, and she taught me a new trick revolving around turning your favorite skirt into a DRESS. How did I not know this?!? Needless to say, I’ve tried to convert all 8 of my long skirts into dresses – 2 worked beautifully and the rest are just, well…. long skirts. lol…
Thank you Wynne, for a great day, gorgeous images and a beautiful spirit!

These two were a little camera shy at first. I can understand where kids, especially young ones, are coming from– the camera can be a little intimidating. I don’t mind kids that are shy though because I still am able to capture their true spirit. It is much better for me to get a few shots of them exploring their surroundings and getting comfortable than pushing kids to be outgoing and it ends up cheesy and forced. There is beauty in every expression, whether it’s a subtle smile or a big laugh. These are some of my favorites from this bashful pair…

Summer is one of our busiest times but you never know if the session you schedule in advance is going to be a nice sunny day or blazing hot and humid. This makes it tricky because if it is really hot, kids and parents can get impatient and unhappy really quickly. The heat gets to me too! Thankfully, this session was a breeze because it was easy to get natural shots out of these smiley kids and their laid-back parents. I love all smiles, especially because it makes photographs like the last one here really stand out– she looks contemplative and peaceful. Do you notice that I LOVE the vintage color effect? It just fits in with my style!

It must be great to have an older sister– you can steal her clothes, makeup and learn a ton from her! You know all the secrets before your sister-less friends do and, no matter how much you may annoy one another at times, you will always want to be a little like her. These two girls look like they already have a strong bond and their love for one another shines through in these photographs. To top it off, their golden hair and striking blue eyes make them natural models!

Quote for the day:
“If you don’t understand how a woman could both love her sister dearly and want to wring her neck at the same time, then you were probably an only child.”
~Linda Sunshine
No need for hats here- this baby has a head full of hair that is so adorable! Older sister also has some beautiful golden locks to be lusted over
Why does it seem that only little kids can pull off the messy, windblown hair look? They’re so lucky that they can wash and wear! The rest of us are left slaving away with our hairdryers and straighteners or curling irons to try to look half as cute as these two munchkins. This was another great newborn session that followed up a maternity session that I adored! I hope this new bean brings this family so much joy and great hair days!

Quote for the day:
“Hair is vitally personal to children. They weep vigorously when it is cut for the first time; no matter how it grows, bushy, straight or curly, they feel they are being shorn of a part of their personality.“
~Charles Chaplin
I love all of my sessions because of the unique personalities and characteristics each family brings to their shoot, but sometimes I’ll have a session that really blows me away. This one did it for me! It’s hard to say what creates a session that is spectacular; it can be the family, the location, or simply the day. This little girl was fun and full of energy, which I think rubbed off on me. I definitely had a great time with this family and that’s why I had such a hard time choosing which pictures to post! So here are a couple more than usual… enjoy!
