*Sigh*… if only we could all be this beautiful while we were expecting.
I’ve been photographing Molly and her beautiful family for a while now (here are a few from their last session – the first two boys in this post), and I’m so excited that they are adding another little one to the bunch! We were supposed to capture a new family portrait, but with two sick boys and the chaos of life, I’m so glad it turned into a maternity session!! I truly believe every woman should document this time in her life. There is nothing more beautiful! (except, perhaps, the end result).

Quote for today:

Summer is one of our busiest times but you never know if the session you schedule in advance is going to be a nice sunny day or blazing hot and humid. This makes it tricky because if it is really hot, kids and parents can get impatient and unhappy really quickly. The heat gets to me too! Thankfully, this session was a breeze because it was easy to get natural shots out of these smiley kids and their laid-back parents. I love all smiles, especially because it makes photographs like the last one here really stand out– she looks contemplative and peaceful. Do you notice that I LOVE the vintage color effect? It just fits in with my style!

I love all of my sessions because of the unique personalities and characteristics each family brings to their shoot, but sometimes I’ll have a session that really blows me away. This one did it for me! It’s hard to say what creates a session that is spectacular; it can be the family, the location, or simply the day. This little girl was fun and full of energy, which I think rubbed off on me. I definitely had a great time with this family and that’s why I had such a hard time choosing which pictures to post! So here are a couple more than usual… enjoy!

I enjoyed meeting this family, especially their daughter who loves to dance! She seemed in her element twirling around for my camera and I love the photograph of her spinning because her dress gives the photo movement and the light is really beautiful as well. I loved how the plaid in her dress and her brother’s pants were classic Americana. They would be great choices for Independence Day
This was definitely a relaxed, fun session!

I had the pleasure of spending the morning with four lovely teenage girls on Main Street Newark having fun and getting great photos. However, I’m sure we’d all agree that it’d be nice sometimes if we could control the weather! If I had known it was going to be so hot and humid (supposedly we have a heat warning until tomorrow) than I definitely would’ve chosen a different day. That’s why I appreciate when the weather cooperates (no thunderstorms rolling in during the middle of my shoots!) and we have a gorgeous day for photo shoots. This family’s session below is the epitome of cool; fun family, great kids, and the blue and white combo reminds of a cool ocean breeze.

These two sessions I’d like to share with you were special because they were of mom and dad still deeply in love and then of their daughter with her fiance, a rather new love in comparison. Mom and dad’s 21 years of marriage definitely shows in the fun they can have with each other and how you can tell they appreciate one another. They give their daughter something to aim for and look forward to! I wish both couples the best in the futures together

One of the things I aim to do in every session is capture the natural expressions of those that I’m photographing. Everyone wants that natural shot of their family looking carefree and happy. These are the moments that we want to remember and see in our homes everyday to give us some hope when things aren’t going smoothly or it’s just one of those rough days where your kids are driving you crazy. You look up at it and think, “Ahh how picture perfect we can be!” I want to share with you a session I loved to shoot and a family that definitely has that natural love for one another.

I especially love when nature works with you too! Isn’t the sun flare in this next photo just radiant?

In these last two photos, I used a vintage effect on the photos and it gives it this nostalgic quality that reminds me of finding old photograph from when we were kids. A little bit faded, but still so beautiful in its own way.

I love capturing the sweet serenity of newborns, even if they can be fussy sometimes. When they get into that deep sleep that makes them perfect for positioning, I often wonder what they could be dreaming about! This sweetie looks so peaceful and is lucky to have awesome parents too!

A long time ago (yes, I’m old enough to have a “long time ago” story), I worked in the prisons down in Texas. You meet all sorts of interesting characters in that line of work…. And so, I’ve met and worked with many different people from many different walks of life, and never, in all of my travels, have I met anyone as strong as these two expecting parents. Their story is one of persistence, endurance and flat out faith. I am so excited that they are about to be blessed with life’s most precious gift, and I’m awfully excited that I get to document it too!

Quote for the Day:
Keep on going, and the chances are that you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it. I never heard of anyone ever stumbling on something sitting down.
~Charles F. Kettering
I love when clients bring a unique prop to their sessions. It makes the pictures even more personal and special. These cool parents brought dad’s fireman helmet with the neat idea of having their baby girl sleeping in it, instead of a basket. Unfortunately, she was just too big! I still think we got a great shot incorporating it. Do I see a daddy’s girl in the making?
