This session made my job easy because all I had to do was stand back and let the magic of these two children in one my favorite locations come to life. I love the movement of big brother’s kilt in the first image, the pure joy of little sister’s expressions, the cherished bond between the two siblings, and the beauty one finds in nature. I want to thank this family for letting me share in their world of fantasy :)

Quote for the day:

“You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That’s where I will always love you, that’s where I’ll be waiting.”

~Peter Pan

These photographs are from two recent sessions I had with lovely Lara! If you’ve ever stopped by my table at the HAC, she’s practically famous because everyone immediately spots our sample Deluxe Album and knows her in some way or another. In these two sessions, I hoped to capture her moments as she grows older and I think I achieved that (both good and bad!). I can’t wait to meet up with the whole family for their holiday session in the next few weeks!

Quote for the day:

“Worry keeps you from living in the present and, like a thief, you steal your own life from yourself…find moments today to feel present joy.”

-Jackie Warner

This is the last of my sessions from Summer 2010 and I’m already beginning to feel nostalgic for these past few months. As I start to pack up the studio and send out my announcement of moving to all my loyal clients that I’ve had over the years here in Delaware, I hope that I will still be able to share in those special moments your family has in the future during my trips down to Delaware several times a year. As a photographer, I have a special privilege in seeing through my lens the intimate moments of a family growing, laughing, and loving together. It is truly a gift every time I meet a new family or take the first pictures of a new baby brought into the world. It allows me to let all the stresses in life fall away and just take peace in that moment I am lucky to capture. I hope you all will grow with me as things change a bit, but the beautiful moments continue.

In my next couple posts, I’m sharing photographs from some of my last Summer 2010 portrait sessions. It has been a hot one (I think I saw in the paper that it was the hottest on record) and I am definitely ready for the crisp, cool autumn air. I’m itching to break out my scarves, cardigans, and on the lookout for a new pair of boots! I think everyone is ready for a breezy fall, so kick back, sip a pumpkin spice latte and enjoy what the new school year brings. And if you are missing the summer heat, check out these posts to take you back to this summer :)

Quote for the day:

“A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.”

~Anonymous

I met this little guy when he was just a newborn and I am always pleasantly surprised to see how much the babies I photograph change in a year! It really makes you realize that a year has passed when you look at how your child’s face has changed or how they’ve grown taller or more mature (one can hope!). It was great getting to tag along on this family’s journey from baby to little boy!

Quote for the day:

“Growing up is never easy. You hold on to things that were. You wonder what’s to come. But that night, I think we knew it was time to let go of what had been, and look ahead to what would be. Other days. New days. Days to come. The thing is, we didn’t have to hate each other for getting older. We just had to forgive ourselves… for growing up.”

~The Wonder Years

These pictures come from our portrait event that benefitted the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This beautiful girl came to me before for a model portrait session and she is a natural in front of the camera. I am glad that I also got to capture a few pictures of the whole family too!

~Morrie Schwartz

I loved meeting this family and getting to know them! They were full of smiles and I know mom really wanted a picture with both of the boys, but life (and photos!) don’t always follow our plans. I hope they loved the shots we did get and I think the individual pictures with mom and son turned out really spontaneous and captured their happy spirits :)

Quote for the day:

“Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”

These two were a little camera shy at first.  I can understand where kids, especially young ones, are coming from– the camera can be a little intimidating. I don’t mind kids that are shy though because I still am able to capture their true spirit. It is much better for me to get a few shots of them exploring their surroundings and getting comfortable than pushing kids to be outgoing and it ends up cheesy and forced. There is beauty in every expression, whether it’s a subtle smile or a big laugh. These are some of my favorites from this bashful pair…

Quote for the day:

“Be who you are and be that well.”

~Saint Francis de Sales

I love all of my sessions because of the unique personalities and characteristics each family brings to their shoot, but sometimes I’ll have a session that really blows me away. This one did it for me! It’s hard to say what creates a session that is spectacular; it can be the family, the location, or simply the day. This little girl was fun and full of energy, which I think rubbed off on me. I definitely had a great time with this family and that’s why I had such a hard time choosing which pictures to post! So here are a couple more than usual… enjoy!

Quote for the day:

“The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.”

~William James

I had the pleasure of spending the morning with four lovely teenage girls on Main Street Newark having fun and getting great photos. However, I’m sure we’d all agree that it’d be nice sometimes if we could control the weather! If I had known it was going to be so hot and humid (supposedly we have a heat warning until tomorrow) than I definitely would’ve chosen a different day. That’s why I appreciate when the weather cooperates (no thunderstorms rolling in during the middle of my shoots!) and we have a gorgeous day for photo shoots. This family’s session below is the epitome of cool; fun family, great kids, and the blue and white combo reminds of a cool ocean breeze.
