I mostly shoot maternity and newborns in the studio, but I love getting the chance to do so in people’s homes because it makes the shots something unique! Also, the newborns are usually more at ease in the environment they have become used to and it makes any newborn problems easier to handle because all their supplies are at our fingertips. Here I wanted to share a recent newborn session at my client’s home that I LOVE how it turned out! The wood steps are my favorite :)

Without fail, every time people come to pick up their portrait orders of their newborn, they comment about how different their baby already looks. Barely recognizable by the photographs I took only a few weeks before. It is a constant reminder of how valuable childhood is and how time can pass without a blink if we don’t take a look around once in awhile. Having children really makes the passage of time more apparent, as you see them change from little squirmy things, to having them trying to walk and talk, and then sending them off to school for the first time. What’s funny is how I never think I’m getting older (well not too much!) and I know it’s only a matter of time until they are teenagers and start thinking, “Wow, mom grew up in a completely different time! No internet all the time?!” That’s what makes these newborn sessions so precious for our families, and for me as well, I get to experience the shock of how so little time changes their new baby almost daily and they get a snapshot of their new bean’s first moments– before they ever think their parents are old!

~James Matthew Barrie

I am sharing yet another mini slideshow from a recent newborn Simple Artistry session! This family now has a couple sessions under their belt with me and I look forward to sharing in all their precious moments. :)

“Your past is just a story. And once you realize this, it has no power over you.”

This couple’s love has stood the test of time– they’ve been together since high school, even when they were miles apart! Along with their maternity photographs, I wanted to share their new addition to the family– isn’t she sweet?

Quote for the day:

“As for me, to love you alone, to make you happy, to do nothing which would contradict your wishes, this is my destiny and the meaning of my life.”

~Napoleon Bonaparte

I wanted to post this short video slideshow I made from one of my recent Simple Artistry sessions. That is the session where you get all your digital files and no print order is placed. Fun, quick, and convenient!

I loved how the photographs from these two sessions turned out! When I was putting together their slideshow for proofing, the emotion and pure love for their new baby boy really came through and I was so touched by the images. I would love to post all the amazing images we got out of this shoot, but I will only put up these few teasers. This mama had a vision for her session and I think we delivered on that.  I can’t wait for them to see everything!

This is a session that I just had to share! Mom and Dad came into my studio and I knew we were going to have a good time. The baby was so sweet (don’t you love the little smile in the second photo?) and the creativity from these parents made the session extra special. Dad actually designed his tattoo that he shows off in the first photo ( love me some tats!) The time flew by and I enjoyed every minute of this session :)

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.”

~George Bernard Shaw

No need for hats here- this baby has a head full of hair that is so adorable! Older sister also has some beautiful golden locks to be lusted over :) Why does it seem that only little kids can pull off the messy, windblown hair look? They’re so lucky that they can wash and wear! The rest of us are left slaving away with our hairdryers and straighteners or curling irons to try to look half as cute as these two munchkins. This was another great newborn session that followed up a maternity session that I adored! I hope this new bean brings this family so much joy and great hair days!

Quote for the day:

“Hair is vitally personal to children.  They weep vigorously when it is cut for the first time; no matter how it grows, bushy, straight or curly, they feel they are being shorn of a part of their personality.

~Charles Chaplin

I love capturing the sweet serenity of newborns, even if they can be fussy sometimes. When they get into that deep sleep that makes them perfect for positioning, I often wonder what they could be dreaming about! This sweetie looks so peaceful and is lucky to have awesome parents too!

Quote for the day:

“I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams then we can play together all night.”

~Bill Watterson

A long time ago (yes, I’m old enough to have a “long time ago” story), I worked in the prisons down in Texas. You meet all sorts of interesting characters in that line of work…. And so,  I’ve met and worked with many different people from many different walks of life, and never, in all of my travels, have I met anyone as strong as these two expecting parents.  Their story is one of persistence, endurance and flat out faith.  I am so excited that they are about to be blessed with life’s most precious gift, and I’m awfully excited that I get to document it too!

Keep on going, and the chances are that you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it.  I never heard of anyone ever stumbling on something sitting down.
